HUNGRY OR THIRSTY

IT’S SNACK TIME!!!!

Anyone that knows me well knows that I LOVE my vittles!  LOL

I mostly love any kind of snack or junk food.

The problem is that when I fill myself with junk food then I’m no longer hungry for something of nutritional value and over time my body begins to feel the effects of it.

Then I will go on this random health kick and eat nothing but good healthy foods….I get to feeling better and think to myself…. I can handle just a little junk food today….and then a little more and so on and so forth….until I’m back to eating nothing but junk again.     Isn’t this just like our spiritual walk?

Paul said it perfect when he asked…. “why do I do the things that I don’t want to do and don’t do the things that I want to do”

Romans 7:19  For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. (KJV)

We have a hunger for God a lot of times more out of our own selfishness because we don’t want to die and go to hell.     There’s nothing wrong with that initial feeling, but our relationship should grow from selfishness to a love so deep for the Lord that we no longer want to sin because of how deeply it hurts Christ.

Just like the junk food…..

I think I can handle just a little so I self indulge.    Immediately regretting but not immediately turning from it.     I’m so ashamed.   That junk food only tasted good for a moment.

Just like when we think as Christians that we will be ok by missing a service to go “spend time as a family”

That sounds good but that’s just how the devil will twist things.

Or we don’t read in our Bible because we are running late for work, school or whatever.    (Why didn’t we get up earlier or plan our time better)

We don’t pray because “we are just too busy” until we are in trouble with a great need and then we find time to cry out to God.

Sometimes Christians think they can still dabble in their worldly sin that they once wanted away from and before they know it they’re being drawn away from the things of God…. why?

Because they no longer have a hunger and thirst after righteousness and the things of God.    We begin to feel either lonely and search out things to fill that loneliness or we feel like we are just fine the way we are and don’t need anything more.   This hurts my heart for people so deeply that they have such a self righteousness and can’t even see their deep need for Christ.    They have scales that have formed on their eyes and can no longer see or sense their need for Christ.   Different forms of idolatry are then set up.   This can be anything that is put before the Lord…. sports, entertainment, food, an attitude (you name it)

Be very cautious about snacking or even nibbling after the things of the world.    We are to be in the world but not of the world.

Being hungry and thirsty are natural feelings.

God tells us in His Word that if we are hungry and thirsty for righteousness that we will be filled.    He calls us “blessed”

When we get sick a lot of times we will lose our appetite.    The same thing happens spiritually speaking and when this happens and we lose our hunger and thirst for righteousness then we can surely know that something is badly wrong with us spiritually.

This is where our world is at right now.    Greed and self righteousness are over shadowing the things of God.

Even in our churches today many of the time Christians “snack” on programs, Sunday morning services, occasional fellowships but they don’t take the time to “feast” with God.

He says the table is ready.

Listen to what He says in John:

John 4:14  But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. (KJV)

Jesus says about Himself that He IS the bread of life:

John 6:35  And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. (KJV)

When David was in the wilderness he cried out to God saying:

Psalm 63:1  O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; (KJV)

How do we begin to develop that hunger for God like David is talking about and that Jesus tells us He can fulfill?

I can remember reading one time where it was said “when you are most satisfied in him, he will be most glorified in you.”

This speaks so loud to my heart and my greatest desire is to be His light and that all things I do glorify Him.

Psalm 81:10  I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it. (KJV)

Lord, search my heart and create in me a greater desire to be so hungry for You that I have no time to nibble on the junk of this world.   Make my desires for You and only You.   Fill me with Grace so that others can see that you are my supreme hunger and I praise You for filling me with all things good.    That I can in all situations know that “It is well with my soul”

Give me a greater desire to hunger and thirst after righteousness so that I can be filled by You.    Let Your Holy Spirit overflow in me.    In Jesus name…. amen
